International Women’s Day is this weekend and a local group is hosting a gathering today in Whitefish River First Nation.
Mnidoo Mnising, the local coalition against domestic violence is hosting a gathering at the local community centre from 10 am to 2 pm today.
Three keynote speakers and a four-legged friend will join the group; UCCM Police Constable Nick Beaudry and his dog, Ben, a specially trained canine police dog, Teresa Nahwegahbow, also with the UCCM Police, and Leanne Lewis focusing on women advocacy.
The day also includes displays, community partners, photo booth and luncheon.
The 2025 International Women’s Day theme is: ‘March Forward’ commemorating 30 years since 189 countries unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for gender equality in 1985.
The UN Women theme for 2025 is a reminder that we must continue to take “bold steps” on gender equality.
