SPORTS: Little NHL tournament and rest of NOJHL season cancelled, soccer registration delayed

The Little Native Hockey League Tournament has been cancelled The host nation, Nipissing First Nation and organizers held an emergency telephone conference yesterday morning to deal with the rapidly changing situation with the coronavirus. In light of several teams pulling out over the last 72 hours, they have decided to cancel the tournament. Up to 228 teams were originally set to take part in the tournament in Mississauga on the March Break.

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League that, effective immediately, all NOJHL playoff games and hockey-related activity have been cancelled, until further notice, due to the result of the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic. This also applies to all 10 leagues that comprise the Canadian Junior Hockey League.

And, the Espanola Minor Soccer Association is postponing registrations for the time being. Organizers don’t want to put volunteers, players and families at risk. They will be consulting with the municipality and the health unit and will announce registration dates in the near future.
