The May long weekend means another start to forest fire season. And surprisingly there have been seven wildfires in the northeast to date considering it’s been a very wet spring. Five forest fires took place in the Sudbury District and burned 48 hectares of land. Two smaller fires less than a hectare in size took place in Kirkland Lake and Hearst Districts. Considering it’s going to be a wet weekend, the Ministry of Natural Resources is expecting very few new fires.
