Several dozen people took in the grand opening of the new Espanola Fire Hall, which included a hose cutting ceremony, presentation of certificates and cake!
John Doucet from the Ontario Fire Marshalls Office and Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes, presented certificates to Espanola Fire Chief Mike Pichor commemorating the opening of the state of the art facility.
Mayor Jill Beer also commended the fire department and thanked staff and project proponents for a job well done.
The new pumper truck, already festooned with decals, was also on display.
Cutting the hose was a lot easier than expected, but Espanola Fire Chief Mike Pichor says he has been practicing.
The hose-cutting ceremony formally opened the new Espanola Fire Hall.
Pichor thanked Espanola’s Lignum Builders who designed and constructed the building and Chris Perry, the project leader for doing a tremendous job constructing the facility through one of the worse winters on record.
He also acknowledged the hard work by the administrative staff of Espanola, public works and his staff who made the transition from the old hall into the new run smoothly.
Espanola Mayor Jill Beer joined him in cutting the hose followed by cake and socializing.
There were no tours due to safety concerns, but the public is invited to come down on July 20th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to tour the new hall.
