Police are asking the public to be alert to the dangers of encountering a bear following an attack on a Sault area woman.
Sault Ste. Marie Police say a woman had taken her dog out in the Old Goulais Bay Road area last Friday night around 11:00pm and was attacked by a mother bear.
Family members had responded to calls for help and the bears ran off.
The woman had several puncture wounds to her back as well as cuts to her head, which were treated in hospital.
Police are asking the public to be on the alert since the bears are now waking up and could be in urban as well as rural areas.
