A Northern Ontario lobby group is welcoming news that the province plans to create five thousand nursing beds by 2022.
And by 2028, the number of new long-term care beds will surpass 30,000.
However, there’s no breakdown on where the beds will be located.
The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities hopes some of them come north.
FONOM says there’s a strong need for new beds in the north because it feels the effects of an aging population more than Southern Ontario does.
