It’s literally taken months of discussion, but Elliot Lake council has finally decided on a primary site for a multi-use facility hub for the city; Centennial Arena.
The site was short-listed as one of top three, but since there is an adjacent site which had ground contamination, a garage was located there in the past, there were environmental concerns raised delaying a final decision.
However, council has learned an environmental assessment is part of the process for applying for funding.
Councillor, Connie Nykyforak, says she supports the site selection but points out council still has to have a business plan put together in regards to developing the project.
Council has until January 15th, 2018 to submit its application for funding the multi-million dollar project.
