Espanola’s president of the Royal Canadian Legion was joined by Espanola Mayor on Friday to raise, not only the Poppy Flag, but also the North Shore War Pensioners Flag.
RCL President, Gary MacPherson was joined by Mayor Ron Piche in officially declaring the Poppy Campaign underway and raising the flags at municipal hall.
Local sea cadets were out selling poppies all weekend throughout the North Shore.
Meanwhile, in Ottawa, Dominion Command officially launched its Virtual Poppy Drop on Parliament Hill with a digital light show featuring 117,000 virtual poppies.
They represent each of Canada’s fallen since the beginning of the First World War.
