Elliot Lake council to debate keeping chickens on residential properties

Elliot Lake council is being asked whether homeowners can keep chickens.  In a 3-2 vote, council’s committee of the whole has sent the issue to the full council for debate.   The request is from a trailer park tenant who wants egg-laying hens.  While the Mayor supports the idea, at least two councillors, including Scot Reinhardt don’t.   Reinhardt believes some property owners won’t keep their yards clean if council amends its by-law and allows chickens on residential properties.
