Third Annual Rare Children’s Diseases Fundraising Skate-a-thon is set to go

Kelsey and Alex McKechnie and their family introduced the fundraiser two years ago after her daughter Iris Mae was diagnosed with Pompe Disease, which requires her to have weekly infusions, which she says now takes about eight hours at Health Sciences North.
Kelsey says the event itself is free however people can register as participants (which is meant to be a donation of $25) or donate only. More info is available on the page https://hhsf.akaraisin.com/ui/SkateAThon2024
100% of all proceeds go towards Pompe Disease Research at McMaster Children’s Hospital- Hamilton Health Sciences.
The Skate-a-thon is set for February 22nd from 11 am to four pm at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex with ice skating inside or out on the Oval.
Alex adds it is a family affair with warming fire pits, smores, coffee/hot chocolate, and face painting, the Lions Club will be hosting its large prize raffle and bbq, and there will be craft tables, skills competition, prizes, and more!
She adds her daughter is thriving and has recently celebrated her 150th infusion, and thanks everyone for their kindness and support over the years.
