Manitoulin Streams, an organization on Manitoulin Island, has been busy providing their know-how to students from Espanola and Sudbury.
Manitoulin Streams once again partnered with College Boreal to conduct some electrofishing surveys on some of the local streams on Manitoulin Island.
According to the organization, the partnership allows students to complete their field studies as part of their third year Fish and Wildlife Program and gain experience with electrofishing, sampling fish populations and determining factors such as species health, abundance, and density at various streams on Manitoulin Island.
The French Catholic High School students from École secondaire catholique La Renaissance also came out to Norton’s Creek to learn about the fisheries survey and how to use it as a tool for fisheries management.
It was a great opportunity for Professor Andre Ferron to highlight the Fish and Wildlife Program to the younger students who may consider taking it as a post-secondary degree.
