The New Democrat Member of Parliament for Algoma-Manitoulin Kapuskasing hopes the third time is the charm.
Carol Hughes confirmed yesterday that she will be throwing her hat into the ring to become new speaker of the House Commons following the resignation of Anthony Rota.
That vote is expected to take place on Tuesday following the Federal holiday on Monday.
I think there is a need certainly to have a female speaker, says Hughes adding there hasn’t been one ever elected to the House of Commons.
Hughes recalls there has been one appointed which was Jeanne Sauve, but never one elected.
Hughes who is currently Assistant Deputy Speaker believes she is the right person to help with the review of what happened in the Rota incident and to also bring more decorum to the House.
