The opening of the new William Paul Foster Park and Splash Pad was a bittersweet moment for the Foster family.
Foster’s widow, Patricia, told those in attendance that it was a year ago Wednesday her husband passed from a degenerative brain condition, but the naming of the park is still a sweet occasion in acknowledging her husband’s dedication to the community.
Foster worked for many years at the local mill and in retirement was an active Espanola Lions Club member and passed away while serving as Deputy Mayor of the municipality.
The day also included the official renaming of the park in his name, Patricia cutting the cake with Mayor Doug Gervais and Sacred Heart’s Special Education Class pressing the button to start up the splash pad.
A ribbon cutting and a thank you was extended by Mayor Gervais to the many supporting partners and the community at large who brought the project to fruition.
