Three people have been arrested in connection to a shooting at a residence on Amikook (AMI-coe) Street in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.
That’s according to the OPP, who says on Sunday, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers from three police services, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, the Manitoulin OPP and the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police responded to the shooting.
Upon arrival, police learned that three people sustained gunshot wounds and the suspect had fled the scene.
Officials say two people died from their injuries while one person remains in hospital.
A shelter in place of safety was initiated and lifted shortly after 7:00 am yesterday morning.
A 19-year-old from Toronto has been charged with first degree murder, two counts of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.
Two Wikwemikong residents, a 54-year-old man and a 33-year-old were charged with two counts each of accessory after the fact to murder, two counts of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
All three are in police custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
