A 55-year-old from Elliot Lake has been charged with unlawfully starting a fire in a restricted fire zone.
That’s according to East Algoma OPP, who says officers were called to assist the local Fire Department at a residence on Bennet Drive on June 6 in relation to someone having a bonfire during the current fire ban.
The accused was issued a provincial offences act notice.
Police say having a fire during a restricted fire zone carries an $880 fine under the Forest Fires Prevention Act.
