Although the Espanola Public Library currently meets Ontario’s Accessibility requirements, providing barrier-free entry and sufficient space for those with scooters, wheelchairs, and walkers, Library CEO Rosemary Rae wanted to see improvements in the restroom.
Ray says up to 80 % of the cost of the project, estimated at $15,000, can be covered under the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund grant, which the town applied for in early November.
She adds thanks to Unifor Local 74, which donated just over $3,000, the local portion, the library can move ahead with the renovation, which will allow for the installation of door-openers to the restroom area.
She adds the work will begin soon.
