The Friends of the Mindemoya Old School have been successful in reaching two important
milestones to meet the requirements of their lease with the Municipality of Central Manitoulin.
Jan McQuay president of the Friends, says under the lease they were required to raise
$50,000 within four months for the building renewal project and were successful in receiving the support of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario.
The money is being used to repair and re-shingle the roof.
The Friends were also required to develop a construction plan within the same four-month time period, so meetings have been held with an architectural and engineering firm with an emphasis on accessibility, energy efficiency, costs, and meeting Ontario Building Code requirements.
McQuay adds topping off their successes is that the Friends have been chosen to receive the Heritage Conservation Award from The Ontario Historical Society for their progress in saving the historic
structure.
Private and public donations to revamp the building as a cultural centre and workplace are
appreciated. For more information, contact Jan McQuay, Friends of the Mindemoya Old School 705-377-
