Quilts of Valor

Royal Canadian Legion branches across Canada are involved in a unique project to acknowledge contributions made by veterans for their service.

Roy Eaton, a Legion member from Manitoulin Island produces a regional newsletter featuring local, provincial and national stories including the initiative Quilts of Valour.

He says this month’s issue features one such story focusing on Sergeant Patrick Huard, a resident of Sheguiandah on Manitoulin Island who was recently presented with a quilt from the Elliot Lake Quilt Guild.

Eaton encourages anyone who wishes to be part of the program to consider making a quilt for their veterans.

He adds Canadian Armed Forces members, past or present, who are ill or injured because of their service to Canada are all eligible to receive a quilt.

Just over 17,000 have been presented across Canada since the inception of the program.
