Members of the Grace United Church in Sudbury gathered together last night for a vigil following a fire, which gutted the 78-year-old structure.
Greater Sudbury Fire Services Platoon Chief Tyler Popowich said firefighters were called out to the church Wednesday evening around 6:00 pm about a possible lightning strike but did not find any cause for concern.
He adds the fire service was called back around 9:00 pm when neighbours saw the building was on fire.
However, he says they have yet to determine the cause.
Church officials held the vigil Thursday evening for the community and stated the church will have to be completely rebuilt.
Grace United Church was created January 1st, 2018, when St. Luke’s United Church and Trinity United Church amalgamated.
The newly formed church made the former St. Luke’s building its home.
