Northern Libraries Launch Advocacy Website

There are expected to be cuts to library staff across the North this week in the wake of the funding cuts by the Ford government.

Libraries across Northern Ontario have launched SaveOLSN.ca – a website highlighting library services by Ontario Library Service – North and inviting the public to join their advocacy campaign by contacting their local MPP or the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Michael Tibollo (TIB-BOW-LOW).

Featuring stories from libraries across Northern Ontario, this website draws attention to the valuable services that are at risk due to a 50% cut in the OLS-North operating budget, announced in the 2019-2020 Provincial Budget.

Jill Andrew, MPP for Toronto-St. Paul’s and Ontario NDP Culture critic, tabled a motion last week calling on Doug Ford to reverse his library cuts
Several staff members are facing layoff, effective this Thursday, May 23rd.
