Work continues on Mississauga Trail

The West-End Trail is part of the Boom Camp network of trails and is a two-kilometre link that connects Youngfox Road in Blind River to Eldorado Road near Mississauga First Nation.

Mississauga First Nation EDO, Jon Cada, says the grand opening will not be held until the Spring and emphasizes there is no access permitted for any motor vehicles, ATVs and snow-machines on the new boardwalk portion that has just been completed.

Cada adds a portion of the trail was historically part of the old highway 17 before the modern byway was constructed.

A joint project, the West-End Trail is supported by Tourism Northern Ontario, the Waterfront Regeneration Trust as part of their provincial cycling trail system, the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail (Lake Huron North Channel Route) and Trans-Canada Trail.

Project funders include FedNor, Trans Canada Trail and Cameco.

The partnership for the project includes the Town of Blind River, Mississauga First Nation and the Blind River Ski-Club.

The grand opening will also include more information about the next steps in building on the existing trails in the area.
