Espanola council moves towards ROPs for design of new fire hall

Espanola council held a Committee of the Whole meeting yesterday afternoon to focus on a new fire hall.

Council had to first decide whether to keep the number of pumper tankers to two or retain the third, which would have meant having to build four bays in the new hall.

In the end, council decided to only keep two, one which will be new, and the rescue vehicle, so only three bays have to constructed, guesstimated at a savings of around $160,000 to $220,000 in construction costs by Deputy Mayor Bill Foster.

Council then passed a resolution to have a Request for Proposal put together by staff for a building design of between 6,800 to 7,200 square feet with three bays, three administration offices, washrooms, a training room and common areas.

However, Foster did say he hopes to see plenty of imagination with the designs come from companies that decide to put together a proposal.
