Espanola council has finalized the municipal budget with no increase in taxes.
In yesterday’s special budget session, council listened to presentations by fire, police and library department heads.
The three have come back with slight decreases and funds were also pulled from reserves to bring the budget to a .09% increase.
However, Councillor Ron Duplessis, suggested that monies from the impending sale of Espanola Hydro be put into the reserves that had been drawn upon to lower taxes this year and bring in a zero budget.

His counterparts agreed and council will pass the budget at its regular meeting on May 22nd.
With a reduced tax levy in education, taxpayers will see a very slight decrease in taxes.
