New vascular ultrasound needed for local hospital

The Espanola Regional Hospital needs to replace ultrasound equipment.

Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, Phil Smith says the unit used for vascular ultrasound needs replacing.

Smith says its primary use is for procedures involving arteries and veins, but also for general ultrasound backup as well.

He says the old one was state of the art when it was purchased, but is now at the end of its life.

Smith adds better image quality will reduce having other tests done elsewhere.

The new unit is expected to cost $200,000 and be installed within the next year.

The Espanola Hospital Auxiliary is already undertaking the task to cover the cost with its Mother’s Day Draw coming up and other fundraisers.

Donations can also be made through the hospital’s foundation.
