The Fraser Institute has ranked high schools in Ontario to see which ones improved in math, and the results are not encouraging for the region. Out of the 747 high schools that were measured, Central Algoma Secondary School and Elliot Lake Secondary School tied for 520th spot. Next on the list is Espanola High School which ranked 560th and in 596th spot is W. C. Eaket in Blind River. The last three area schools measured are in the 600 category. Manitoulin Secondary finished 635th, Wasse Abin Wikiwemikong is 676th and Jeunesse Nord in Blind River is 678th. A school that does not appear in the rankings is Villa Francaise des Jeunes in Elliot Lake.
