The Ontario Provincial Police charged 587 drivers with impaired driving during its annual Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign.
The release states an additional 366 drivers were issued a warning and had their driver’s licence suspended for being impaired.
The numbers were slightly down from the year before, which catalogued 623 impaired drivers and 407 warnings.
Forty-four lives were lost in alcohol or drug related collisions in 2017.
The campaign ran from November 24, 2017 to January 2, 2018.
