Work on the Victims of Violence Shelter in Wikwemikong is officially underway. Several dignatories took part in a ground-breaking ceremony on Wednesday which included elder Phyllis Williams and Bruce Moffat of Manitoulin-North Shore Victims Services. Others at the event were Pam Williamson, the executive director of the Teg Health Centre and elder Donna Debassige. Once complete, the shelter will service all of Manitoulin and will also be open to men. The shelter should be operational about a year from now.
